Happy Holidays everyone!

This time of year always seem to fly by, but it's always my favorite. :) Extra time with family and friends, cozy weather, fun decorations, what could be better?

Well, getting to assist stylist Tasha on the American Gentleman Magazine cover shoot was pretty high up on the list of awesome thing to happen during winter break.

Keep an eye out for American Gentleman to be released in early 2012!

The highlight was getting to work with such professional yet passionate and kind people and a beautiful wardrobe.

The Playboy Club may have been one of the shortest running new shows of the season, but it was long enough to remind me how gorgeous Amber Heard. Not only a pretty face, but she also embraces Old Hollywood glamour with open arms, making her one of my favorite actresses to watch when it comes time for a red carpet. Far too many starlets these days go for the too tight/too shiny combo, so it's refreshing to see someone embrace a much more classic approach to dressing up. She can also rock both blonde and brunette which is not an easy feat in itself!

I never thought I'd fall into the category of shoe obsessed. I mean, I generally consider myself enamored with all articles of clothing, from pants to tops and dresses and especially sweaters. However my shopping habits recently have betrayed me and I think I am entering the shoe fanatic category. New docs and now these babies, Deena and Ozzy wedges, scored at a great discount from Urban Outfitters.

HI!

I literally feel like I fell into a crack in the blogosphere. I had a trip to Houston for dance which was crazy, stressful, amazing, and magical.

Anyways, these last few days I have embraced my inner shopoholic...retail therapy at it's finest. Usually I'm a big culprit for buyers remorse, but when the sale is on sale, I don't hold back. Even though it is fall I can still get away with wearing an open side tank in California. I am craving cold weather!

I'm most excited about my new Docs...I inherited them from a friend who no longer wears them and I am obsessed!

This past week I swear the shoe gods must have been smiling down upon me. Most people who shop with me know I am a bargain hunter. I may covet (and intend on someday owning) ridiculously expensive designer pieces but when it comes to actually laying down the dough I get all hesitant and buyer's remorse-y. I guess you could say it's both a blessing and a curse. Anyways, here are the three pretty little pairs I am excited to add to my collection...none of which cost more than $30!

Surprise, surprise...I can't help but be attracted to pretty things. And retro things. Put that together and a pretty heavy obsession grows. That's how I feel about the Ralph Lauren Spring '12 collection. After reading the review on Style.com I learned that Ralph Lauren was responsible for designing the costumes for the original version of The Great Gatsby and it all made so much sense. A perfect 20's inspired collection by the costumer of the quintessential Jazz Age movie.

This silk blouse makes me smile every time I wear it. Thrifting is the best way to find silk tops for unbelievable prices and the print on this one makes it an absolute gem. I'm really into wearing shirts like this all the way buttoned up, emphasizing the prim collar. When I was little, wearing shirts buttoned up was something I avoided at all costs...funny how things change!

These photos are from a day spent in downtown Montrose, where they have the cutest boutiques and restaurants, including a vintage toy store.

It has been way too long since I've done a Style Crush post and I thought what better than to write about a true fashion icon. I had to research 60's style for a costuming project and came across numerous photos portraying Brigitte Bardot. Onscreen she was a bombshell and offscreen she had enviably effortless style. To top it all off she's French. No wonder she remains a style inspiration to this day.

With Labor Day come and gone and almost all schools back in session, it is safe to say summer is winding to an end. I will miss all the lovely times spent driving with the windows down and relaxing at the beach, but truthfully I could not be more excited for fall. Please tell me I am not the only person with this mindset!

I spent this particular patriotic holiday exploring Old Town Orange, a local favorite area for historic buildings and cute stores. It is also a perfect backdrop for the photoshoot I am putting together this weekend...but more about that later!

We are experiencing an end of summer heat wave so I couldn't face anything more substantial than a lace top and cut offs.

This has been a very good week.

I successfully sold some clothes to Buffalo Exchange on my first try (man they are picky!) and was able to buy a pair of loafers! I am in love. I've worn them for three days straight and have no intention of taking them off. To top it off I had an amazing meeting yesterday that's opened me up to a whole new world of opportunities and ideas...I can't wait to see where it goes.
I got this super awesome app called Golden Hour which tells you the best time to take photos for great lighting. A photographer's (or fashion blogger's) dream! Thanks to Sterling Style for this recommendation.

A few days ago my mom brought home a book from the craft store all about re-purposing clothing in new ways. Most of the projects required semi-advanced sewing skills and time, two things I'm lacking, but when I saw a project that I could start and finish almost instantly I knew I had to try it.

This skirt is SUPER easy and I am in love with the results.

Step one - Button mens shirt around your waist, using the collar like a waistband.

Step 2 - Pull the sleeves to the front and tie.

Voila!

You now have a Vivienne Westwood-esque skirt!

These skirts are pretty easy to come by, especially if you have a dad or brother to borrow from or you can find them in a million styles and colors at your local thrift.

New York, New York

I'm back from my trip to the city and it was so absolutely wonderful.

My experience dancing at Radio City Music hall was fantastic and opened my eyes to so many new things...plus I made a lot of amazing friends!

Around the dancing I was able to fit in a mini vacation. Being my second time in the city I was able to forgo some of the more touristy plans and explore less crowded places. It was a dream come true. There are so many hidden gems left to be uncovered, all the more reason to visit the city over and over and over.

So here is a little guide of all my favorite places to visit, shop, and eat so far.

SHOP

-Henri Bendel - I must say, Bendels is a personal favorite of mine. I may not be able to afford 80% of the stuff sold there (yet), but I love the way the store feels. It's like a fashion wonderland. Also a great place for buying gifts for friends, the luggage tags and friendship bracelets are adorable.

-Opening Ceremony - love love love. Spent 15 minutes explaining my love of the PS1 because they had a million on display in every color.

-Aritzia - This place is so lovely. It's a Canadian based store and this location is their American flagship as far as I know. It's huge and beautiful and they were having an amazing sale, I couldn't help falling in love. Expect super soft tops and sweaters from brands like Wilfred and TnA, a various mix of nice jeans, as well as statement pieces like layered lace skirts and leather jackets. I'm praying for an LA location ASAP.

-Urban Outfitters on 5th - It's huge and I love UO so it's a win win.

-Forever 21 on 5th - I never did get to venture to the behemoth that is the Times Square location, however this one is perfectly huge with 6 floors and has much smaller crowds. There is also a dressing room on every floor which can help combat their silly 6 items a pop rule.

EAT

-Sarabeths - Yummy breakfast right by Central Park

-Popbar - To die for gelato. On a stick. Dipped in chocolate.

-Habana Outpost - Worth the trip to Brooklyn just to eat outside on the colorful patio. The food is amazingly good (get the corn!). There is also a Soho locale.

-Fuzia -Awesome sushi.

-Rue 57 - On the fancier side, amazing sandwiches.

-Bryant Park Grill - Also on the fancier side and so pretty, the park is gorgeous around dinner time with all the lights in the trees.

-Dojo -Chopstick salad. Enough said.

VISIT

-The Met - I could spend days here.

-Central Park - So pretty and best of all its free.

-Radio City Music Hall -I definitely think it is worth your while to see a show or take a tour here. It is so full of history and so beautiful.

-Broadway - See a show! I saw How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and it was phenomenal. Glee fans should know Darren Criss will be playing the lead for the month of January.

-Evolution - This place is technically a store but it feels more like a quirky museum. Lots of taxidermy and skeletons and rocks and crystals and strange stuff. Not exactly for the faint of heart but I found it fascinating.

Thank you for the recommendations regarding my previous post. New York is one of those places you can visit a million time or even live there and never run out of new things to see and do.

Not even a 6:45 AM flight will deter from my excitement...10 days in New York seems like a dream! My mom and I are staying at the Waldorf Astoria thanks to the discount I get for attending my dance intensive.

For all you LUCKY city dwellers I'd love some suggestions of things to do in my downtime!

My to do list already includes a visit to the Chelsea Flea Market, the Mcqueen exhibit at the Met, classes at Steps and BDC, and hopefully a musical or two, but I need more. I got all the touristy things out of the way when I went two years ago, so I'm looking to explore and try new things. :)

I Survived!

Okay, maybe it's a little early to say that since I still have one dance intensive left, but really I feel at least some celebration is in order! I survived nationals with my studio followed by Final Cut a.k.a. one of the hardest weeks of my life. In 5 days we put together an entire dance show from start to finish with a group of 60+ strangers from all over the country. If you think that sounds crazy you are absolutely right.

Anyways, I am now home on my 5 day break before my next intensive which will be taking place in New York! Even though I leave in 3 days it is still hard for me to believe that I am actually going back. This trip is perfect inspiration to help me get back into blogging.

Speaking of inspiration, I booked my first job as a stylist! Right before all this dance madness began I was asked to work on the promotional shoot for LA Dance Magic. It was almost too fun to call work and really good experience and definitely opened my eyes to pursuing styling as a career.

I can't wait to show off the final result!

DIY // Denim Cut-offs Makeover

Nasty Gal, Urban Outfitters, Shopbop, basically every online retailer that I love seems to be teeming with cute and colorful denim shorts in a wide assortment of bright colors....and I want them all! But I definitely can't afford them all. So I took it into my own hands to make my own pair from scratch for as cheap as possible! So here is my first ever DIY to make such short and I must say I was very pleasantly surprised by the outcome.

What you need:

jeans or shorts
fabric dye
a bucket
bleach
decorating materials
(studs, paint, fabric, etc.)

1. Start with a pair of old mom jeans that fit you from your local thrift store. I was able to score this old pair of Levi's for $1.99 thanks to a half off sale at my favorite Salvation Army.

2. Cut them as short as you would like, I prefer them a bit shorter in front and longer in back.

3. Think of something fancy to do with all your leftover scraps.

4. Fill a large bucket about halfway with water, enough to fully submerge the shorts and add 4 cups of bleach. Best wear protective gloves for this step and be careful not to spill the bleach. This is the longest step, it will take overnight for all the blue to come out. Make sure you stir the shorts using a stick every once and awhile to make sure the color is evenly removed.

5. Once all the color is gone pull the shorts from the bucket and let as much water as possible drain off.

6. Next, follow the directions on your pack of clothing dye. I used a brand called RIT in the color petal pink. It came in a powder formula but I've heard liquid works great as well. You can also do this in a bucket, but again make sure to stir it around a bit.

7. Play with a puppy until the color sets! I left it in for about 20 minutes to get my desired color.

8. Once the shorts are the shade you want, wash them in hot water to set the color and then dry. From here you can leave them plain or decorate them however you want! I bought a studding kit from Studs and Spikes and used that.

Ahh summer is (almost) officially here! We've had an exceptionally long and drawn out dreary spring, so the warmer temps and clear blue skies are extremely welcome. This is my first summer since I was 3 without a full time figure skating training schedule which is bittersweet. However, I am as eager as ever to easy summer style and beauty, these blogs have some amazing examples of that.

1. I skipped 8th grade and graduated high school a year early (which allowed me to take this last year off of school, I will be returning this fall)
2. At 5'8.5 I am still the shortest person in my family. My sister is 6' tall!
3. This summer I am going to New York to attend the Rockettes summer intensive.
4. When my mom was pregnant with me doctors told her there was only a 5% chance of me actually surviving.
5. I obsessively multitask. I'm always doing more than one thing at a time.
6. Purple is my favorite color at the moment.
7. I seriously love to travel. I love discovering new places both near and far to home.

A few years ago I discovered Etsy and it was like falling into a fantastically quirky and wonderful rabbit hole. At a young age I started trolling ebay for deals (at age 11 I sold all my outgrown clothes online for spending money...I guess I'm an entrepreneur at heart) but it wasn't the best platform for handmade sellers hoping to create a boutique type environment. Needless to say, Etsy has stolen my heart and is growing both as a site and as a community everyday. Being a seller there myself, I have discovered quite a few stores and products I am absolutely in love with and I thought it was about time I share...

If you follow any number of fashion-centric tumblr's you have probably seen pictures of one of these sets. Until a few weeks ago I had no clue where to find them but a lucky search on etsy sent me to Amourouse. Each is custom made to the customer's size and can have lining added to make them suitable for use as a bathing suit. Vintage-y, flower-y, bow-y, amazing!!

I'm still waiting for the true California summer weather to show up! Until then, it gives me a reason to keep wearing my favorite vintage sweaters and long layers. I tend to shy away from long skirts as they tend to be too short on me but this find was perfect! There are so many great things about this skirt, it doesn't cling or get static-y like some other skirts and it is totally light and breezy. The best part? Pretty soon you can have it for yourself when it is up for sale on the Theodora Vintage page. :)

ahhh Weird webcam picture I know, but I felt the need to include a thinking photo with this thinking post...anyways...

I'm in one of those unfortunate, inevitable, absolutely wretched writer's block slumps.

All I can help thinking is why do I blog? There isn't much that makes my blog different from other fashion blogs as much as I wish there was. Developing a voice and a persona is not an easy task and something I'm definitely working on, but at times it just feels so overwhelming. Then again is that something I should even have to try at?

All I know is that it is time for me to change things up a tad.

When I feel stuck in a rut I just remind myself

"Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different result."

(Totally thought this was an Einstein quote but apparently its Ben Franklin)

So here's to shaking things up a bit and becoming more inspired again! I've found I find the most joy in what I do when it comes from the heart and I don't try to be something I'm not.

How adorably cool is Chloe Moretz? Anyone who has seen 500 Days of Summer fell in love with her character, the spunky little sister with plenty of advice for her lovesick brother. She continues to rock seriously crazy roles, already having a secured spot in Tim Burton's next film. Chloe has gained a rep not only her talent but her style. Spring Break?

Technically this week is the spring break at my dance studio, so I have a surprisingly large amount of free time on my hands. Its such a nice change as opposed to my usually regimented schedule so I'm taking the time to pack in some much needed R&R. The only bummer so far has been the weather. Yesterday was gorgeous, completely clear and 80 degrees, but this morning a heavy cloud cover rolled in that's supposed to last all week. Not what I call spring break worthy weather! Fingers crossed the clouds go away but until then I can enjoy wearing my new thrifted DKNY blazer that I snagged for $10 last week.

Attending Coachella music festival is one of those things I plan to do someday, this year I just wasn't lucky enough to figure out the logistics of financials to make it possible. The entire event fascinates me...from the music lineups, to those who camp out, masses of people in the dusty desert heat; its a recipe for both disaster and utter greatness. To top it all off there is the style. Music festival dressing exists in its own special sort of sub-genre, where virtually anything goes. Here are some of my faves from this past weekend...

I don't have to fly anywhere this weekend! I had a fantastic time traveling the country with LA Dance Magic these last three weeks but it really feels nice to be home for a change. These boots are borrowed from a friend but oh how I wish they were mine! Seriously, they are so comfy and extra cozy with the fuzzy lining. However, with spring in full swing and a warm summer on its way I really have no need for a pair of furry boots, so I will keep myself content with the occasional shoe swap (she took my purple leather Justin's as collateral). Another new addition here is my new backpack from Target. I am a serial small purse offender, often carrying a bag too small to everything I need and therefore pawning things off on my friends to hold. But this is no more! I can easily fit my wallet, phone, camera, makeup, iPad, a book, heck a spare pair of flats in this bag without much trouble. I'm in love.

I love everything about this editorial.

The lighting, the wardrobe, the hair and make up, the model...I instantly bookmarked it. Browsing new eds is always hit or miss for me, it's one of the few times I become surprisingly opinionated. It's got to have at least a little glamor, fantasy, and sparkle, well in this case, a lot!

On a personal note, I will be in NYC this summer! In January I auditioned to be a part of the Rockette Summer Intensive and was accepted. It still hasn't registered that I will be going back and getting to train at Radio City, it is really a bit of a dream come true. I will hopefully be staying a few days after the intensive ends (last week of July, beginning of August) so I would love any and every recommendation for favorite things to do in the city during the summer!

Already time for another Thursday ♥'s??

I had plans for an outfit post and another Style Crush but things fell to the wayside due to another, bigger project that came up. The Spring lookbook for the vintage store I run alongside Sasha (Theodora Vintage) is days, maybe even hours from being ready to post! I'm so incredibly excited about it...we are debuting our first collection of Men's vintage. Brothers, boyfriends, and husbands of the world no longer have to go without the availabilty of some stylish vintage duds.

Anyways, back to this week's round up.

Having a fashion blog exposes me to a wide assortment of styles and satorial opinions. Sometimes it's overwhleming, I never feel like I can pick or settle into one set "look" which is both liberating and confusing. I have, however, managed to narrow down a few of my personal favorite styles that never seem to tire of. I will never grow out of classic feminine ladylike clothes. It's a fool proof way to look fresh and pulled together without much effort.

I'm home! It's been a whirlwind of two weeks traveling to New Jersey and Dallas for dance but an absolutely wonderful experience. Now, with a mountainous amount of fashion week coverage to catch up on, I have found a few blissfully free moments to get back to blogging! As silly as it sounds, I miss fashion. When I don't have the opportunity to check my favorite blogs and news sites I feel so out of the loop, especially this time of the year with fashion month in progress.

Right this minute, all I want to wear is shorts!

High-waisted, drapey, patterned, structured, any and all styles preferably paired with nude heels or lace up flats and bows. I blame Modcloth for my obsession due to all the adorably styled pairs that keep popping up in my email. Please tell me I'm not the only one in love!

Here are the first new uploads to Theodora Vintage for 2011! We had a bumpy road getting back underway after the holidays but now things are better than ever. Planning for our Spring '11 lookbook is well underway as well as plans to debut a section of Men's vintage! Having a newly organized space is the perfect inspiration and motivation to keep us moving as well as the interest we've received from friends and strangers alike. We have made 4 international sales since opening in September, so there are now fashionable girls wearing in London, Denmark, Dubai, and Tokyo. ♥

Yesterday, the Theodora Girls and our adopted TV girl, Heather, got together for an organization extravaganza! Our work and store room had gotten a bit out of control to say the least and we were quickly running out of space for all the new beautiful pieces. With some perseverance and some good music to listen to we were able to completely empty the space of anything un-Theadora Vintage related. From there we divided the pieces among the two racks, one for currently listed items and another for our new items. All in all, now we have an amazing new space to use and bring the store new and exciting things. :)

Let me start off by saying I felt like quite the daredevil climbing a picnic table in such big shoes but it was quite exhilarating. Last week my friend, Sash, and I spent the day discovering new thrift stores in out area and ended up striking gold. We found a little old shopping center in the middle of a neighborhood that had three thrift stores side by side! We didn't even manage to get through all three so a return trip is definitely in the works.

Seriously, I did not mean to fall off the face of the earth, it just sort of happened. :/
A mix of extremely hectic scheduling and lack of inspiration made it really easy for me to get out of the habit and that just makes me sad, because in all reality I love my little piece of the internet. :)

Anyhow, here are so photos I took during a collage making session a few weeks ago. I decorated a notebook to write down ideas for posts and to help me blog more (HAH) and I was quite happy with the results. I have a good 50+ magazines sitting in my room to go through right now, all the way back to American Vogue from March of 08. Whoopsie!

It is amazing how a new day and a new outlook can make things seem different and exciting all over again. :)

This past week I went shopping in LA with my mom to pick out costumes for my dance studio. She is in charge of putting together all the looks for our competition pieces, quite a task considering there are 25 girls to fit. It ended up being a rather successful trip, now the rhinestone-ing and alterations will begin! I decided to wear my new top that I got at an after Christmas sale at Anthropologie. I swear I fall even more in love with that store every time I go in, from the clothing to the books and decor. It's usually way out of my price range, but the rare sale is always fantastic.

Skins has quickly become one of my all time favorite TV shows now that I can catch up watching it on Netflix. From the very beginning I noticed the unique style of Kaya Scondelario who plays Effy, the main character's little sister. Her character on the show spends most of her time up to no good, but looking messy and fabulous all the while. Her signature smudged smoky eye from sleeping in full makeup has inspired numerous Youtube tutorials. In real life Kaya tends to choose a more pulled together look however classic British quirkiness is ever present. A mini dress and booties seems to be her go to red carpet look and it works every time.

Happy New Year everyone!
2010 was hands down the craziest year of my life. I feel like a completely different person going into this year, which makes me quite excited. It's a good change and I'm eager to see where my life will go next!

A couple days ago I jotted down a few resolutions and I'm actually looking forward to keeping them.

I will take the time to be more creative in all aspects of my life. I am going to embrace my inner DIY capabilities and finally sit down and tackle some of the projects I've always dreamed of working on.

I will learn to cook new yummy, healthy recipes. This last year I finally started liking salad, for the first time in all my 18 years as crazy as that sounds. I've always been a bit of a picky eater so hopefully I'll start liking even more new things and be able to cook with them.

I will stay positive and go after the jobs and opportunities I want. Now that I'm not skating anymore I have the time and energy to pursue new things with all of my effort.

I will make a greater effort to be more outgoing and stay in contact with the people that mean the most to me. I have a tendency to be a bit of a wallflower, but it's about time I come out of my shell :)

I will continue to improve my blog and it's content as well as Theodora Vintage. I have a seperate little list of blog resolutions to keep me motivated all year long. :)

Well there you have it. So far so well, the weekend has been a bit quiet and dreary but I spent it giving my room a nice clean up and using the time to sort out my thoughts. Oh and finishing the entire second season of Skins, however my love of that show deserves its own post.

This year ended with a fun surprise thanks to my frequently mentioned friend Alyssa. For my birthday she bought me a pair of black Lita booties by Jeffrey Campbell. I would have to say these shoes have somewhat of a legendary status among the fashion blogger community and now I know why. At nearly 6'' tall, these are some of the most comfortable and easy to walk in heels I have ever worn. Not to mention, they add the perfect tough edge to almost any outfit and make me feel seriously bad ass. I definitely can't wait to think of more ways to wear these beauties.

Last Saturday I went out with some friends for dinner to celebrate my 18th birthday. Despite pouring rain I wanted to wear my recently thrifted heels and new hat. Both survived the raindrops and puddles and came out unscathed. We rounded off the fun night to see the movie Black Swan which truly blew me away. It was properly dark and creepy, I left the theater with a headache from focusing so hard on what was real and what wasn't. Lesson learned, high platforms are a good replacement for rain boots. :)

Black Swan

I know I am not alone in saying I am seriously excited to the movie Black Swan. There are so many reasons for it to be amazing...

1) Natalie Portman is awesome in basically anything she does.
2) Both Natalie and Mina Kunis trained for months in order to do almost all of their own dancing in the film.
3)Costumes by Rodarte. That fact alone is enough.
4) It's dark. No bubblegum princess-y ballerinas here.

Not to mention, the posters alone and total pieces of art.

I spent last Sunday shopping in downtown Fullerton, home to many cute boutiques. It was a beautiful day, although I was definitely unprepared for the intense chill that set in. The Buffalo Exchange there has a fantastic selection, my favorite of the three locations I've visited (Costa Mesa and Long Beach are the other two). I scored a floor length chunky turquoise cardigan by Free People for only $25. Also worth the visit is American Vintage, a massive well organized vintage treasure trove. They literally had everything you could want for both men and women on well organized racks. We meant to check out a few other shops but a bloody blister from new shoes (whoopsie) and hunger brought an end to the excursion. I definitely plan to head back there.

Sometimes I wish I had a boyfriend just so I could steal his clothes.

Ok, maybe that's not the ONLY reason, but seriously...guys style is fascinating. I think this comes from the fact that guys tend to be more low key about their satorial choices than girls. It's all about happening to look cool and pulled together, not planning an out an outfit days in advance which I am definitely guilty of. As the holidays approach and all my favorite online stores add their winter collections I can not help being drawn to the oversized and somewhat boxy shape of men's sweaters and blazers. These guys totally have it down...

These last few days I've been feeling a bit uninspired when it comes to blog content. My life is moving 100 miles an hour in all different directions which I keep meaning to share but feel sort of odd as I've always considered this a strictly "fashion/style" themed blog. But then again it is my blog so I guess I can do whatever the heck I want.

Secondly, am I the only person who feels like its necessary to shop 24/7 to be a good blogger? Not that I wouldn't MIND that ability, but I in no way have the funds necessary to be constantly adding to my wardrobe. These limitations push me to try more creative combination with the clothes I already have, but it feels like I'm breaking some secret blogger law when I repeat an item or two in an outfit post. It's like peer pressure the spend every dime I have on something new just so I can blog about it. In reality, I am most inspired by those who are able to take old pieces from their closet and give them new life or alter a thrift store find to fit their current style.

Now, with a clear conscience and an open mind I shall go forth and blog about what I want to. Sometimes you just need to let it all out in order to move forward.

Urban Fusion!

This past Thursday, Sasha (of Black n Gold a la Mode) and I got to host our first pop up store event for Theodora Vintage at Saddleback College's Urban Fusion event. We were definitely excited and nervous not knowing what to expect, but it ended up being a seriously fun experience. Getting to actually interact with our customers was the best part because they share the same passion for vintage fashions as we do! Hopefully we will be doing some more events like this in the near future, and I would love for anyone in the area to stop by!

Sometimes I feel like in California the change of season means absolutely nothing. It may be approaching mid November but we still have consistently warm temperatures in the 80's. It's been way to long since I did a Style Crush post, and I've been slowly collecting pictures for this one for quite some time. After seeing the movie An Education, I knew Carey Mulligan had a bright and successful career ahead. The movie itself had incredible style so I was eager to see if its lead had the same sense. At the time she was quite a newbie on the scene so there were few pictures available, but after a year full of awards shows, premiers, and film festivals there are plenty example of Carey's quirky style. Her looks may seem basic and streamlined from afar but one look at the details, such as miniature kitchen tools decorating her Prada Oscars gown, show her true style sense.

Tis the Season

Ok so maybe it's a little early for me to get excited, but I really love the holidays. :) I mean Halloween is right around the corner! To me nothing is better than dressing up and getting cozy with family and friends...not to mention all of the yummy food.

So in my building excitement for all things festive, I am eagerly anticipating the annual Victoria's Secret holiday fashion show. Ever since I was a little girl I've dreamed of what it would be like to don my own pair of angel wings and take a turn down the glittery runway. Last week I got my hair done for the first time in awhile and decided to go more red. It was kind of a last minute idea but I love the way it turned out! I'm definitely not one of those people who get's attached to a hairstyle. Instead, every few months or so I get antsy and have to try something new.

These photos are from last Friday...today has actually been much less glamorous. I got all four of my wisdom teeth out today, so I am confined to the couch and an all liquid diet for the next few days. Should lead to some extensive blog reading and online shopping, so feel free to leave links to your all time favorite blogs (other than your own, I'll check that out too ;) and online stores so I can stay entertained!

Room to grow

The time has finally come for me to move from my tiny closet sized bedroom into my sister's bigger bedroom. It is the first time since I was born that I've been able to completely redecorate a room of my own from start to finish. It's a slow-going process as she moves out, but its given me plenty of time to assemble my inspiration. So far, the room has been painted all white with gold molding and a gold and crystal light fixture. There is still some painting to be done but in the coming weeks I'll be able to move in furniture and finally get to settle in and style the space.

Last week, Sasha (Black n' Gold a la Mode) and I attended the Rose Bowl Flea Market in search of vintage treasures. It was totally overwhelming but so much fun to wander aisle after aisle of vintage and antique booths looking for deals and rare pieces. We even managed some haggling, which we were both a bit nervous to attempt. This outfit shows two of my favorite finds, the high-waisted denim skirt and the purple leather boots. After I discovered and fell in love with Purple Jeffrey Campbell Lita's only to find they were sold out, I was determined to find some kind of alternative. These new boots definitely fill the void.

In Memory

It's been an odd month for my family.
August brought the loss of my grandpa, on my father's side. At 101 he had lived a long full life but it was, of course, hard to see him go.
Fast forward to yesterday.
Another late night phonecall brought the news of my grandmother's passing. This time it was my mom's mother. It was completely out of the blue. The finality hits like a fist and makes everything harder to comprehend.

Disclaimer: Initially, I meant to sit down and absorb all that is S/S 11 so far. However, I seem to have literally no attention span lately so please enjoy the intermittent fashion week-y blurbs and bits that will appear over the next month!

Anyways,

Let me just start by saying Fall is by far my favorite season. All fashion aside, spring has always been a stressful time for me, plus its the precursor to summer heat...which I do not appreciate. In my opinion, the Fall collections always have the best clothes...who doesn't like rich colors, layering, dramatic party/gala worthy gowns? But all seasonal preferences aside, I've been really pleased with the looks that are pouring in from show to show. Some of my favorite trends are sticking around (Ladylike and Retro Inspired FTW!) along with quite a few I'd definitely like to get on board with.
As much as I want to be drawn to the simplistic, uber-cool girl image Alexander Wang puts out, it's always hit or miss if I like his collection. For the time being, my eye is often drawn to a modernized version of girly, allowing bows and ruffles to seem chic rather than campy.

This last week I attended the Wardrobe fashion event host by 80's Purple at the Lab in Costa Mesa. There was a DJ, sales, and a runway show featuring looks from all the stores. The show was great but I had the most fun people watching and seeing that looks pulled together by other fashion-minded people.

Lesson learned: Jaywalking in massive heels across 6 lane roads can be dangerous.

As this outfit shows, I was feeling a bit eclectic on Monday and took bits and pieces from all over the house. My dad always manages to keep his pairs of socks together, a skill I must not have inherited, making his prime for the borrowing. The belt has a bit of history as well...It was my belt as a toddler that my mom unearthed recently and I still manage to wear on the absolutely largest setting. I'm all about re-purposing clothes any way I can. :)

I am in the process of cleaning out my room in order to move into and re-do my sister's old room. What better time to create a little online garage sale? I decided to use ebay as my selling platform because I had success there in the past.

Last night I was exceptionally lucky to attend my second Lady Gaga concert in LA. Let me just say, she does not dissapoint in any way. It was another jam-packed nonstop 2 1/2 hour show, with enough costume changes and pyrotechnics to make anyone dizzy. One of the best parts of her shows is the fact that the audience dresses up as well. It is completely commonplace to see people in bedazzled leotards, ripped fishnets, and massive headpieces. Feeling creative, I decided to try out the crazy frizzy hair that was pretty popular during the F/W '10 shows (ex. Marc Jacobs and Rachel Comey). I was a little intimidated at first, but it worked out pretty well!

As far as style goes, in my opinion, you cannot get any more classic than Audrey Hepburn. Not only a gorgeous actress but a beautiful person, Audrey managed to solidify an iconic look that transcends generations. I spent the evening watching her first movie, Roman Holiday, and fell back in love with the elegance of the style in that time period.
